LGBT Issues

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender families are far from homogenous. They consist of men parenting alone; women parenting alone; men and women parenting together; lone parents; families with two mothers and two fathers; adoptive parents; biological parents; co-parents; mixtures of all of these and many more. There is no single face of LGBT families.

There are now many more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people choosing to parent than ever before. Our research has shown us that around 1 in 5 LGBT people are parents or have children, with many more contemplating creating a family in the future.

The aim of this section is to offer information about LGBT parenting. This includes information to debunk some of the myths about LGBT families, useful tips for LGBT parents to help them challenge prejudice in school and some useful resources exploring issues for LGBT parents.
